Early careers in Turkey: internships, MT, YTP, graduate and leadership programmes explained (2026)

Türkçe oku

Short answer · September 2026

An internship (staj) is a period of work experience during your studies; a summer internship (yaz stajı) runs a few weeks during the break, while a long-term internship (uzun dönem staj) runs during term, usually a few days a week for several months. Graduate and young talent programmes such as Management Trainee (MT) and Young Talent Program (YTP) are how companies hire final-year students and new graduates through a structured process, using rotations and training to develop future managers. In almost all of them the application is made in the company's own applicant tracking system, followed by online tests, video interviews and an assessment centre. Proyo was built for people applying to all of these programmes: it brings the listings into one feed, prepares a tailored, ATS-friendly CV for every application and tracks the process.

A short glossary of early-career programmes

In Turkey these programmes go by both Turkish and English names, often interchangeably.

  • Internship (staj): A time-limited period of work during your studies. Some degrees require a mandatory internship (zorunlu staj) to graduate; a voluntary internship (gönüllü staj) is one the student chooses.
  • Summer internship (yaz stajı): A full-time internship during the summer break, usually a few weeks long. Engineering students' mandatory internships mostly happen here.
  • Long-term internship (uzun dönem staj): An internship during term, usually a few days a week for several months. Aimed at third- and fourth-year students, and often a first step towards a full-time role.
  • Project-based internship (proje bazlı staj): An internship built around a specific project, lasting as long as the project does.
  • Internship programme (staj programı): Not a single position but a structured programme that takes a cohort of interns together, with training, mentoring and an end-of-term presentation.
  • National Internship Programme (Ulusal Staj Programı): Run by the Presidency's Human Resources Office, offering internships in public institutions and private companies through one application on Kariyer Kapısı.
  • Management Trainee (MT): An entry programme in which new graduates rotate through departments over a set period and are prepared for management roles.
  • Young Talent Program (YTP) / genç yetenek programı: A structured hiring programme for final-year students and new graduates. The scope varies by company; some are internships, some full-time roles.
  • Young Professionals Program: Usually aimed at young professionals with up to a few years of experience; common at international organisations and large companies.
  • New graduate programme / New Grad / Graduate Program (yeni mezun programı): Positions or programmes reserved for graduates, starting right after graduation.
  • Talent Program (yetenek programı): A general name for programmes in which companies gather and develop young talent as a pool.
  • Leadership Program / Future Leaders (Geleceğin Liderleri): Programmes that prepare high-potential young employees for leadership roles.
  • Management Development Program (yönetici geliştirme programı): Builds management skills; often similar to an MT programme.
  • Management candidate (yönetici adayı): A role meant to lead to a management position after a training period; retail store-manager candidate programmes are a common example.
  • Career programme / candidate engineer programme (kariyer programı / aday mühendislik programı): Names companies use for programmes that develop graduates within their field.
  • Early Careers: The umbrella term for all internship, graduate and young talent programmes.
  • Academies and bootcamps: Short, intensive programmes that train participants and then aim to hire them.

The application process is similar across programmes

Whatever the programme is called, early-career hiring at large companies mostly follows the same stages:

  1. Online application: Usually in the company's own applicant tracking system (ATS). According to Jobscan, 97.8% of Fortune 500 companies use an ATS — assume your CV is read by software first.
  2. Online tests: Numerical, verbal and logical reasoning, and personality inventories.
  3. Video interview: Often recorded answers to pre-set questions. In HireVue's Unilever example, candidates take an AI-assisted video interview after game-based assessments.
  4. Assessment centre: Case analysis, group exercises and presentations.
  5. Final interviews: Conversations with managers and HR.

Each stage needs its own preparation, but the first decides all of them: if the CV doesn't get past the software, the test invitation never comes. That is why Proyo tailoring your CV to each posting and making it ATS-friendly is the most important step of the process; its Interview Studio adds spoken practice for video and face-to-face interviews.

When do applications open?

Application windows vary by company and can shift from year to year. As a general frame:

  • MT and graduate programmes mostly open between autumn and spring, for graduates of the following summer.
  • Summer internship applications are mostly collected in winter and spring.
  • Long-term internship listings are published throughout the year, clustering near the start of each term.
  • National Internship Programme applications are taken through Kariyer Kapısı on the calendar the Presidency's Human Resources Office announces.

The most reliable source for exact dates is the listing itself. When you save a listing in Proyo it stays on your board, and you see every application's stage in one place.

Why internships matter so much

An internship is often the shortest path to a full-time role. The NACE 2025 Internship & Co-op Report, based on US employers, found that employers extended full-time offers to 62% of their 2024 intern class on average — 72% for in-person internships. There is no equivalent dataset for Turkey, but many long-term internship programmes are openly designed as hiring pools.

So an internship shouldn't sit outside the "I'll look for a job after graduation" plan. A summer or long-term internship in your second or third year becomes the strongest line on your MT application.

  • Cover letters: A posting-specific cover letter in about 10 seconds.
  • Tracking: Every application and its stage on one board.
  • Interview practice: A five-minute spoken interview with an AI recruiter who has read the posting and your CV, with feedback.

Real CVs that got accepted

Proyo's Grad Network (Mezun Ağı) holds the CVs that hired graduates were accepted with. Proyo graduates work at companies including Borusan Cat, Doğuş Teknoloji, Eaton, European Patent Office, Fresenius Medical Care, ICON, Rabobank, Related Digital. Graduates verify where they work; contact details are never shown. Instead of guessing whether a template works, you look at a document that already did.

Proyo is growing

Proyo ran a collaboration with the Sabancı University Industrial Engineering Society (Sabancı IES), which students received well. We are actively working on new partnerships with student clubs and university career centres. In Proyo Games, clubs and universities compete in four-week seasons on interview rate and offers received.
