Intern pay and graduate salaries in Turkey 2026: the legal minimum, real listings and evaluating an offer
Short answer · October 2026
Intern pay (2026): for an internship your school makes mandatory, Article 25 of Law No. 3308 requires the workplace to pay at least 30% of the net minimum wage (at workplaces with 20 or more staff) or 15% (fewer than 20 staff). With the 2026 net minimum wage at 28,075.50 TL, that is 8,422.65 TL and 4,211.33 TL a month. For voluntary internships there is no legal minimum; pay is set by contract. Some long-term internship programmes pay more: in Proyo's listing feed, ASELSAN's a Yetenek and Oyak Renault's 4 Seasons programmes stated that they pay the full minimum wage. Graduate pay: the legal floor is the minimum wage (gross 33,030.00 TL, net 28,075.50 TL a month in 2026); MT and graduate programmes almost never state pay in the listing, and the exact figure comes at the offer stage. When comparing offers, Proyo (proyo.app) shows you on one board which processes have reached the Offer stage.
How much are interns paid in 2026?
| Situation | Legal minimum | 2026 amount (monthly, net) |
|---|---|---|
| Mandatory internship, workplace with 20 or more staff | 30% of the net minimum wage | 8,422.65 TL |
| Mandatory internship, workplace with fewer than 20 staff | 15% of the net minimum wage | 4,211.33 TL |
| Voluntary internship | No legal minimum | By contract |
| Public institutions | No state contribution paid | Depends on the institution |
Most summer internships are where students do their department's mandatory internship while schools are closed, so for a summer internship the "mandatory internship" rows are the ones to look at first. A long-term internship is usually voluntary; one your school doesn't count as the mandatory internship has no legal minimum.
The calculation uses the 2026 net minimum wage announced by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (28,075.50 TL); when the minimum wage changes, these amounts change too.
The law's wording: students doing internships at businesses may not be paid less than the net minimum wage's "thirty percent at workplaces employing twenty or more staff, fifteen percent at workplaces employing fewer than twenty" (Vocational Education Law No. 3308, Art. 25). Rates circulating online such as "35% for engineering students" do not appear in the text of the law.
What is the state contribution to intern pay?
Under a temporary article of Law No. 3308, part of the minimum pay owed to students at schools other than vocational education centres is paid to the employer as a state contribution from the Unemployment Insurance Fund:
- two thirds at businesses with fewer than 20 staff,
- one third at businesses with 20 or more staff.
According to the text of the law, internships of higher-education students not required to do one by their programme — that is, voluntary internships — fall outside this contribution, and no contribution is paid to public institutions. The arrangement is temporary and is extended by presidential decision; ask your school's internship office about the current status for your internship period.
What it means for the intern: the state contribution lowers the employer's cost; it doesn't change the minimum you receive.
What do real listings say about pay?
Proyo gathers early-career listings from public sources into one feed. None of the 97 listings that came into the feed in July–September 2026 gave a salary figure. Six listings mentioned pay at all:
- ASELSAN a Yetenek 4: a programme of about eight months, "full-time minimum wage for two days' work a week".
- Oyak Renault 4 Seasons project internship (two listings): part-time, "the full minimum wage monthly while you work".
- Limak Çimento Young Talent Programme 2026: "payment of the legal intern wage".
- Commencis (two bootcamp listings): "competitive salary", without a figure.
The practical conclusion: you can't learn the figure from the listing, but the difference between "full minimum wage", "legal intern wage" and a listing that says nothing can mean a two- to three-fold difference in monthly income. Don't hesitate to ask when applying or in the interview.
How much do new graduates earn in 2026?
The certain floor: the minimum wage, gross 33,030.00 TL and net 28,075.50 TL a month in 2026. A full-time graduate role can't pay less.
On averages, honesty matters: the "average graduate salary" and "MT salary" figures circulating online are mostly compiled from anonymous posts; we found no current graduate salary survey that publishes its method. So we don't give an average here. What we know:
- Pay varies widely by sector, city, company size and role.
- MT and graduate programmes almost never state pay in the listing; we cover this in the MT guide.
- Benefits (meals, transport or travel allowance, private health insurance, bonus, training support) change the total offer considerably.
- The most reliable information comes from people who went through the same programme, and from the offer letter itself.
What do you say when asked about salary expectations?
- Give a range, not a single number: make the bottom end the lowest figure you'd accept.
- Say whether it's net or gross; in Turkey offers are discussed both ways and the difference is large.
- Think about benefits separately: "I'd like to consider the total package" is a professional answer.
- In structured roles (MT, YTP), pay is often the same for everyone and room to negotiate is narrow; speak knowing that.
- Rehearse the answer out loud before the interview; in Proyo's Interview Studio you can hold a five-minute spoken rehearsal with an AI recruiter who has read the posting and your CV.
How do you evaluate your first job offer?
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| What is the net salary, and the gross? | Net pay can fall during the year as the tax bracket changes. |
| What benefits are there? | Meals, transport, health insurance and bonus change the total package. |
| How long is the programme, and what happens at the end? | In MT and YTP, the role at the end can matter more than the salary. |
| Are there rotations and training? | What you learn in the first two years sets your next salary. |
| What type of contract? | Open-ended or fixed-term, and how long is the probation period? |
| City and working pattern? | Hybrid or office; commuting and cost of living. |
If you're running several processes, offer timing matters: knowing which application is at which stage decides how much time you can ask for when answering one offer. On Proyo's board, every application sits in one place with its stage — Saved, Applied, Testing, Interview and Offer.
