MT and internship interview questions and answers: competency, case and video interviews (2026)

Türkçe oku

Short answer · October 2026

MT and internship interview questions come in three kinds: competency questions ("Tell me about a time you led a team"), motivation questions ("Why this programme, why this company?") and case questions (solving a business problem out loud). Competency questions are answered with the STAR structure: Situation, Task, Action, Result; most of the time goes to the Action, the most concrete facts to the Result. In a case interview, how you structure the problem matters more than the right answer. In video interviews you mostly record timed answers to pre-set questions; what makes the difference there is having rehearsed out loud. Proyo (proyo.app) offers Interview Studio for this: a five-minute spoken interview with an AI recruiter who has read the posting you applied to and your CV, with feedback at the end.

What stages does an MT interview process have?

The processes companies publish on their own pages:

  • Turkcell GNÇYTNK Full Time: online assessment (general ability, English test, personality inventory), group case study, HR and business-unit manager interview. The Part Time track has a video interview instead of the group case.
  • İş Bankası Uzman Yardımcısı: general ability and English exam, assessment centre, HR pre-interview, panel interview.
  • Unilever UFLP (Netherlands): online application, digital assessment, digital interview, Discovery Centre.
  • Garanti BBVA Talent Day: a one-day event; candidates who then succeed in interviews start as Management Trainees.

So an MT candidate usually meets at least three interview formats: a video interview, a group or case exercise, and a face-to-face or panel interview with managers. We cover group exercises separately in the assessment centre guide.

What is the STAR technique and how do you use it?

STAR is a four-part structure for answering competency (behavioural) questions:

  • S — Situation: When and where? One or two sentences.
  • T — Task: What was your responsibility?
  • A — Action: What did you do? "I", not "we". The longest part of the answer.
  • R — Result: What happened? With numbers if possible; and what you learned.

Example (illustrative): "Tell me about a time you led a team."

Situation: Our club's annual careers day lost its budget when the main sponsor pulled out a month before. Task: As event coordinator I had to run it without cancelling. Action: I split the eight-person team in two; one group approached smaller sponsors, the other moved the venue to a free campus hall. We held a 15-minute status meeting every day. Result: Six smaller sponsors covered 80% of the budget and 120 people attended. I learned not to depend on a single sponsor.

Writing this answer is easy; saying it out loud in two minutes without stumbling takes rehearsal.

The most common MT and internship interview questions

QuestionWhat it really measuresHow to answer
Tell me about yourself.Communication, self-awareness60–90 seconds: what you do now, your two strongest experiences, why this role. Not your life story.
Why this programme / this company?Motivation, researchA concrete feature of the programme (rotation, team, project) linked to your own goal.
Tell me about a time you led a team.LeadershipSTAR; stretch the "what I did" part.
Tell me about a time you failed.Self-criticism, learningA real failure, your share in it and what you did differently afterwards.
How did you resolve a disagreement?Communication, teamworkHow you understood the other side and the shared outcome.
An example of a decision you made with data?Analytical thinkingWhich data, which tool, which decision, what result.
Where do you see yourself in five years?Goal fitThe role you want to reach after the programme; realistic and in line with it.
What are your salary expectations?PreparationGive a range; know where it comes from. Pay guide
Do you have any questions for us?InterestAsk what the team expects in the first six months, or where past participants are now.

Five or six stories are enough to prepare: leadership, teamwork, failure, an analytical problem, initiative and conflict. The same story can be adapted to different questions.

How do you prepare for a case study interview?

In a case interview you're given a business problem ("A drinks brand's sales fell in one region — why?") and expected to solve it out loud. What's assessed is how you think more than the right answer.

  1. Clarify the question: What's the goal, what period, which region? Ask one or two questions.
  2. Structure: Break the problem into parts. For a sales drop, for example: the demand side (price, competitors, consumer preference) and the supply side (distribution, stock, sales team).
  3. Form a hypothesis and ask for data: "I'd like to look at distribution first — has the number of outlets in this region changed?"
  4. Do simple maths: Market sizing or profitability with round numbers, out loud.
  5. End with a recommendation: A one-sentence conclusion, two reasons, one risk.

The way to prepare isn't reading cases but talking while you solve them: with a friend or out loud, against the clock.

How do you pass a video interview?

In early-career hiring, video interviews are mostly one-way: a question appears on screen, you record your answer after a short preparation time, and nobody is on the other side. In HireVue's Unilever example, candidates take an AI-assisted video interview after game-based assessments; Turkcell's GNÇYTNK Part Time process also has a video interview stage.

  • Technical: camera at eye level, light from the front, a quiet room, wired or strong internet. Use the practice question if there is one.
  • Time: answers are usually 1–3 minutes. Practise fitting STAR into that.
  • Eye line: look at the camera, not at your own image on screen.
  • Notes: three keywords at the edge of the screen are fine; reading a script shows.
  • Rehearsal: what makes video interviews hard isn't the camera but having no one react. That's why rehearsing out loud, against the clock, is the most effective preparation.

Spoken practice with Proyo Interview Studio

Reading interview questions and answering them out loud are different skills. Proyo's Interview Studio is for the second:

  1. You pick an application from your board.
  2. An AI recruiter who has read the posting and your CV holds a five-minute spoken interview with you; the questions fit that role and your experience.
  3. The interview runs in the posting's language; you can ask the interviewer to switch. For an English MT interview, you rehearse in English.
  4. At the end you get feedback.

On the day an application moves to the Interview stage on your board, you can rehearse for that same posting.

Real CVs that got accepted

Proyo's Grad Network (Mezun Ağı) holds the CVs that hired graduates were accepted with. Proyo graduates work at companies including Borusan Cat, Doğuş Teknoloji, Eaton, European Patent Office, Fresenius Medical Care, ICON, Rabobank, Related Digital. Graduates verify where they work; contact details are never shown. Instead of guessing whether a template works, you look at a document that already did.

Proyo is growing

Proyo ran a collaboration with the Sabancı University Industrial Engineering Society (Sabancı IES), which students received well. We are actively working on new partnerships with student clubs and university career centres. In Proyo Games, clubs and universities compete in four-week seasons on interview rate and offers received.
